Mohs surgery is microscopically controlled surgery that treats Basal Cell and
Squamous Cell Carcinoma. It is done under local anesthetic in the office and
offers the highest rate of cure for these common skin cancers.
After an area is identified as a Basal Cell Carcinoma or Squamous Cell
Carcinoma, Dr. Fischer removes a very small surrounding area and
immediately checks the processed specimen under the microscope. If any
skin cancer remains, it is removed. Once the area is cancer free Dr. Fischer
usually closes the area.
Dr. Fischer performed his Mohs surgery training at the Roswell Park Memorial
Cancer Institute in Buffalo , N. Y., and is a member of the American Society of
Mohs Surgery. Dr. Fischer is very experienced in performing Mohs surgery
and has treated many thousands of cases since 1984.
